Which Service is Right for You?
Every move is different; use this section to match speed, budget and volume to the right service.
Options at a Glance
| Service Type | Best For | Typical Volume (m³) | Typical Transit | Key Benefits | Considerations |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dedicated Van | 1–3 bed homes, time‑critical moves | 12–35 m³ | 2–4 days | Direct route, fixed dates, minimal handling | Higher cost vs part‑load |
| Part‑Load / Groupage | Budget moves, flexible dates | 1–20 m³ | 5–10 days | Share costs, eco‑friendly | Delivery window, more handling |
| Packing Service | Fragile/valuable items | n/a | n/a | Pro packing, export‑wrap, materials included | Add‑on cost |
| Storage (UK/EU) | Staged relocations | n/a | n/a | Short/long‑term storage, secure | Extra monthly fees |
Dedicated Van – choose this if:
Pick this when speed and date certainty matter most and you prefer one crew from door to door.
- You need date‑certain delivery or are working to exchange/keys deadlines.
- You’re moving a whole flat/house (≈12–35 m³) or have many fragile items.
- Access is tricky (narrow streets, long carries) and you want one crew, one vehicle.
Good to know: Best balance of speed + care. Price higher than part‑load but fewer handling steps.
Part‑Load / Groupage – choose this if:
Choose a shared load when your volume is modest and you’re flexible on delivery windows.
- You have smaller volume (1–20 m³) or flexible dates.
- You want the most economical option and can accept a delivery window.
- You’re happy to plan around a shared schedule to reduce emissions and cost.
Good to know: Extra handling during consolidation – we use pro wrapping and labelling to protect items.
Packing Service – when it helps most
Our professional packers reduce risk, save you hours, and produce a clean inventory for customs.
- Crystal, artwork, IT equipment, or time‑poor households.
- Lowers risk and speeds up customs thanks to a clear, itemised inventory.
Storage (UK/EU) – ideal for staged moves
Use storage to bridge gaps between keys, renovation dates or temporary accommodation.
- Renovations, renting before buying, or waiting for keys.
- Combine with part‑load or dedicated transport when your new home is ready.
Real‑World Scenarios
These quick examples show how customers typically choose services by volume, access and timing.
- Student/expat starter move (5–8 m³): part‑load keeps costs low.
- Family 3‑bed home (~30 m³): dedicated van for date certainty and minimal handling.
- Tight city access or restricted hours: dedicated van with pre‑arranged permits.
- Move in stages: storage + part‑loads over several weeks.

Transit Times & Scheduling
Transit depends on distance, route and service mode; use the guide below to plan realistic dates.
Transit Matrix (guide, kerb‑to‑kerb)
| Origin (UK) | Destination (SK) | Dedicated Van | Part‑Load Window |
|---|---|---|---|
| London/Home Counties | Bratislava | 2–3 days | 5–8 days |
| South East / South West | Bratislava | 2–4 days | 5–9 days |
| Midlands / North | Žilina / Nitra | 3–4 days | 6–9 days |
| London/Home Counties | Košice / Prešov | 3–4 days | 6–10 days |
| Scotland / Wales | Košice | 3–5 days | 7–10 days |
| Northern Ireland (ferry) | Bratislava | 3–5 days | 7–11 days |
Times depend on volume, access, ferry/tunnel slots and weather. Express options can shorten dedicated transit (see below).
Scheduling Options
Pick from the models below depending on how tight your schedule is and how price‑sensitive you are.
- Standard Dedicated: single‑driver, direct route UK→SK with overnight rest stops; predictable and careful.
- Express Dedicated (2‑driver): continuous driving within legal limits; can reduce the above times by ~0.5–1 day on longer routes.
- Economy Part‑Load: shared vehicle on fixed weekly lanes; most cost‑effective with a planned delivery window.
What affects timing?
Several practical factors influence the final schedule; here are the most common ones.
- Access & loading complexity (permits, long carries, upper floors without lift).
- Ferry/Tunnel availability on UK–EU leg and peak demand.
- Consolidation schedule for part‑loads (how quickly we fill compatible routes).
- Season & weather: winter conditions in mountainous areas can add contingency.
Tips to secure the best dates
A few small adjustments can make booking easier and often cheaper.
- Book 2–6 weeks ahead for more options (longer for school‑holiday peaks).
- Be flexible by ±1–2 days to access better pricing and departure slots.
- Avoid month‑end and Friday collections if you want lower rates.
- Tell us early about lift restrictions, narrow streets or permit needs so we can plan vehicle size and timing.
- If you need speed, ask for an Express Dedicated (2‑driver) quote.
- For tight budgets, choose a part‑load with a wider window.
- Moving in winter? Allow an extra day as a buffer for weather.

Documents & Customs (Post‑Brexit Basics)
Moving UK→Slovakia means importing your household goods into the EU. In most cases, used personal effects qualify for household‑goods duty relief when you’re transferring your normal place of residence. We guide you through every step.
Who typically qualifies for relief (high‑level)
- You’re changing residence to Slovakia and can show proof (tenancy/ownership, employer contract, school enrolment, etc.).
- Goods are used personal property and not for resale.
- Where required, items have been in your possession and use for a period prior to import and will remain for your personal use after import.
Regulations can change by authority; we’ll confirm what applies to your case before transport.
Your Document Pack (checklist)
Getting these items ready in advance keeps borders smooth and your delivery on schedule.
- Passports for all adults + contact details (email/phone in Slovakia).
- Proof of move: Slovak rental/ownership agreement or employment/assignment letter (start date), or other residency evidence.
- Detailed inventory by room with approx. values for insurance; mark FRAGILE where relevant.
- Packing list (carton numbers + contents); we prepare this if we pack.
- Transport documents (we provide): CMR/waybill, collection & delivery addresses.
- Authorisation/Power of Attorney for our customs partner to act on your behalf (simple signed form).
- Vehicle documents if shipping a car/motorbike: V5C/registration, purchase proof, insurance; fuel nearly empty on collection.
- Pet documents if applicable: microchip, vaccinations, travel scheme paperwork.
Suggested Timeline for Documents
A simple countdown helps you prepare without last‑minute stress.
- 4–2 weeks before collection: gather proof of move, scan IDs, advise us of any new/unused items.
- 10–7 days before collection: finalise inventory & values; confirm any restricted items.
- 72–48 hours pre‑collection: sign customs authorisation; we lodge your pack with our EU partner.
- On the day: carry original passports and keep a copy of the inventory accessible.
Restricted & Prohibited Items (guide)
Use this quick guide to decide what to ship, declare or leave behind.
| Category | Examples | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Prohibited | Fuel/gas cylinders, explosive/flammable liquids, fireworks, ammunition, illegal drugs | Do not ship |
| Restricted | Aerosols, paints, solvents, chemicals, batteries not in equipment, large power tools | Declare; special packing or exclude |
| Controlled/Declare | Alcohol, tobacco, high‑value jewellery, new goods, cash/collectibles | Declare; duties/taxes may apply |
| Biosecurity | Plants, seeds, soil, untreated wood, perishables | Generally not accepted; ask us |
Avoid delays by:
- Listing new/unused purchases separately (receipts may be requested).
- Keeping quantities realistic for a household move (no commercial volumes).
- Flagging antiques/artwork that may need special documentation.
- Ensuring appliances are clean & dry; note serial numbers for high‑value items.
Reminder: We’ll pre‑check your dossier and coordinate with customs partners to keep borders smooth.
What We Pack (and How)
We follow professional export‑packing standards for safe international transit.
Packing Standards
Our crews use export‑grade materials and consistent methods to keep your items safe door‑to‑door.
- Export wrap for furniture: padded blankets + stretch/foam where needed.
- Carton quality: double‑walled boxes, taped on all seams; wardrobe cartons for hanging clothes.
- Box weight guidance: keep most cartons ≤20 kg (books ≤15 kg) to protect contents and floors.
- Itemised labelling: each carton marked Room – Contents – Carton # (e.g., KITCHEN – Pans – 12).
- Photo inventory of key items on request, supporting insurance.
Box Types (quick guide)
These are the cartons we use most often and what they’re best suited for.
| Box Type | Typical Use | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Small (Book) Box | Books, tins, tools | Heavy items only up to guidance weight |
| Medium Box | Kitchenware, decor | Most common; mix light + medium items |
| Large Box | Bedding, cushions, soft goods | Avoid overloading with heavy items |
| Wardrobe Carton | Hanging clothes | Prevents creasing; includes rail |
| TV/Monitor Pack | Screens | Foam edge guards; keep remotes/cables bagged |
Special‑Care Items
Some belongings need extra attention; here’s how we protect them in transit.
- Glass, mirrors, artwork: corner protectors, picture cartons, optional custom crates.
- Appliances: drain washing machines, fit transit bolts; defrost and dry fridges/freezers 24 hrs before collection.
- Mattresses/sofas: bagged/covered to keep clean in transit.
- Bikes/sports gear: wheel/handlebar removal and frame protectors as needed.
Self‑Pack vs Pro‑Pack
Pick the approach that fits your time, budget and risk tolerance.
- Self‑Pack: we supply materials + checklist; ideal for budgets and flexible timelines.
- Pro‑Pack: fastest and lowest risk, especially for customs (clean inventory, clear labelling, proper valuations).

Access, Parking & Building Rules
Why it matters: Good access planning saves time, reduces costs, and prevents parking fines or building‑rule issues.
Before You Book (share with your surveyor)
A short pre‑survey checklist helps us plan the right vehicle, crew and timings.
- Full postcodes and floor numbers at both addresses.
- Photos/videos of street, entrance, corridors, stairwells, lifts and any tight turns.
- Any height/width restrictions (arches, car parks), weight limits, or time‑of‑day rules.
Permits & Restrictions
Local rules vary by council and building, so advance planning is essential.
- We can assist with bay suspensions, loading permits and temporary no‑parking signs where required.
- Typical council lead times: 3–10 working days (express options vary by area).
- Red routes/loading only zones: loading must be at signed bays and within time limits — reservations recommended.
Vehicle & Distance (guides)
Good parking and the right vehicle size keep loading efficient and costs predictable.
- Aim to park within 10–15 m of the entrance; long carries add handling time.
- Typical vehicle clearance (guide only):
- Luton van with tail‑lift: length ~6.7 m, height ~3.2 m.
- Long‑wheelbase van: length ~6.0 m, height ~2.6–2.8 m.
- Tell us about low bridges, narrow lanes, or limited turning circles.
Lifts, Stairs & Building Rules
Sharing these details early helps us avoid bottlenecks on move day.
- Reserve lift slots and obtain service lift keys if available.
- Share lift dimensions/weight limits; confirm if protective padding is required by building management.
- For stairs: number of floors, tight corners/spirals, and handrail clearance.
Special Access Solutions
When streets are narrow or weight‑restricted, we adapt the plan to reach you safely.
- Shuttle van for narrow streets/weight‑restricted roads with tranship to main vehicle.
- External furniture hoist (where legal and feasible) to speed upper‑floor moves.
- Smaller vehicle first, then transfer to line‑haul for efficiency.
Property Protection on the Day
We protect floors, corners and communal areas to keep your property (and neighbours) happy.
- Floor runners, corner guards, door‑jamb protectors and bannister wrap.
- No‑shoes policy on request; matting laid at entrances.
- Protect walls and lifts with pads/blankets as required by building rules.
On‑Day Quick Checklist
Use this short list to keep the day running smoothly.
- Neighbour notice and cones/signage in place (where allowed).
- Clear routes inside the property; remove obstacles and fragile decor.
- Keep pets secure and a lift key/fob to hand.
- Prepare a Do‑Not‑Pack essentials box (documents, meds, chargers).
Rural Addresses in Slovakia
Country roads and weather can add complexity; a few details help us plan the right approach.
- Provide GPS coordinates, note unpaved roads or winter conditions; we’ll plan vehicle type and chains if needed.
Insurance & Protection
We believe in clear protection choices so you know exactly what’s covered and how.
What’s Included by Default
Your quote includes core protections as standard; here’s what that means in practice.
- Goods in transit cover for household effects while in our care, subject to declared values and policy terms.
- Professional export wrapping, load‑strapping and vehicle security protocols.
Upgrade Options
If you want extra peace of mind for fragile or high‑value items, consider the add‑ons below.
- All‑risk cover (recommended for fragile/high‑value items): insures against accidental damage and loss during packing, transit and delivery (policy terms apply).
- Optional pairs & sets and electrical/mechanical derangement extensions where available.
Valuation & High‑Value Items
Accurate values ensure the right cover and a smoother claim if anything goes wrong.
- Declare a realistic replacement value at destination for your goods (policy basis of settlement applies).
- Itemise high‑value pieces (e.g., fine art, antiques, designer furniture) for accurate cover.
- Keep purchase proofs/serial numbers for selected items where possible.
Common Exclusions (guide)
Like any insurance, some scenarios aren’t covered; the list below is a helpful overview.
- Loss/damage to owner‑packed cartons due to poor packing.
- Jewellery, cash, documents, hazardous/forbidden items.
- Pre‑existing damage, normal wear and tear, or minor cosmetic scuffs consistent with handling.
How to Report a Claim
If something isn’t right at delivery, here’s the process to resolve it quickly.
- Note any visible issues on the delivery paperwork at handover.
- Photograph the item(s) and packaging; keep damaged packing until advised.
- Contact your coordinator as soon as possible (ideally within 48 hours) for next steps and forms.
- Provide inventory references, values and receipts where available.
Exact coverage, limits and reporting timelines will be confirmed in your policy schedule and terms.
Risk‑Reduction Tips
These quick wins reduce the chance of damage and speed up delivery.
- Choose Pro‑Pack for fragile/valuable items.
- Avoid overloading cartons; stick to weight guidance.
- Keep passports, jewellery, laptops and daily‑use medications with you.

Moving with Pets, Cars & Special Items
Some items need a different approach; the guides below help you prepare them safely and compliantly.
Pets (dogs, cats & small animals)
Moving can be stressful for animals, so a little preparation makes a big difference.
- Before move day: ensure microchip & vaccinations are up‑to‑date; pack vet records and any travel scheme paperwork; discuss anxiety options with your vet if needed.
- Crate preparation: choose a crate large enough for standing/turning; add familiar bedding and a worn T‑shirt; begin acclimatisation 1–2 weeks ahead.
- On loading day: keep pets in a quiet, closed room with water, litter/pads and signage on the door.
- During travel: plan regular breaks; avoid over‑feeding; carry collapsible bowls, waste bags and cleaning wipes.
- On arrival: set up one safe room first with food/water/bed/litter; keep routines consistent for the first few days.
Cars & Motorbikes
Vehicles travel securely when documents, fuel levels and electronics are set up correctly.
- Documents: registration (e.g., V5C), insurance, keys/fobs, immobiliser codes.
- Prep: reduce fuel to ¼ tank or less; photograph the vehicle condition; remove loose accessories; fold mirrors; disable alarms/trackers before loading.
- Transport options: wheel‑on/wheel‑off loading via ramps; winch assistance for non‑runners; enclosed transport available on request.
- EV/Hybrid notes: confirm state of charge (SoC) requirements; provide charging cable; some models require transport mode activation.
- Motorcycles: use soft‑loop tie‑downs, front wheel chocks and fork savers; remove panniers/top boxes or secure internally.
Pianos, Artwork & Antiques
Delicate and heavy items need specialist handling and, sometimes, custom protection.
- Pre‑survey: measure stairs, landings and tight turns; confirm floor load limits for grands.
- Protection: climate‑considerate wrapping, keyboard locks, corner guards; custom crates for artwork/mirrors where appropriate.
- Handling: dedicated crew lead and supervised loading/unloading; avoid extreme temperature swings where possible.
- Insurance: declare values and special notes (restorations, provenance) for tailored cover.
IT/TV & Electronics
Data safety and proper packing are key to a smooth setup at your new home.
- Data safety: back up laptops/PCs and sensitive drives before packing.
- Disassembly: photograph cable layouts; bag remotes/cables and label with the device name.
- Packing: use anti‑static sleeves/bags where available; stand screens upright, edge‑protected; avoid stacking heavy items on electronics.
Large Appliances
A few steps before collection protect seals, motors and finishes during transit.
- Washing machines: fit transit bolts; drain residual water.
- Fridges/freezers: defrost 24–48 hours prior; dry seals and leave doors ajar till loading.
- Cookers/ovens: isolate safely; gas disconnections/reconnections must be performed by qualified professionals at origin and destination.
- Dishwashers: drain hoses and filters; secure racks.
- General: tape doors/cables; protect with covers; let appliances stand upright for several hours after arrival before switching on (especially fridges/freezers).
