First establish which UK customs route applies

“From the UK” is not precise enough for customs planning. Confirm whether collection is in Great Britain—England, Scotland or Wales—or in Northern Ireland. The UK government provides a customs declaration checker because the requirements depend on where the goods start and finish. The route may also be affected by whether the load contains personal effects, commercial goods, a vehicle or items subject to restrictions.

Romanian Customs explains that personal property may qualify for relief from import charges when a person transfers their normal residence from a non-EU country to the EU customs territory. The published conditions include previous residence outside the EU customs territory for an uninterrupted period of at least 12 months, possession and use of eligible non-consumable goods for at least six months before the move, and continued use for the same purpose after relocation. Evidence is required and restrictions can apply after import.

A useful household-goods inventory should identify

• each furniture item and major appliance;
• the approximate number and size of boxes by room;

• items owned recently or intended for a different purpose;
• antiques, artwork, instruments or fragile objects needing separate protection;
• goods that could be mistaken for stock, resale items or business equipment.

Dedicated vehicle

A dedicated vehicle carries one confirmed move. It can be the better fit when the load is larger, the timing window is narrow, access requires a specific vehicle, or the customer wants the route planned around one consignment. Dedicated does not mean that every collection can receive an identical transit promise. Distance, legal driving hours, crossings, customs processing, weather and access at both addresses remain part of the plan.

Property access is part of the price, not a minor detail

Furniture needs protection suited to its surface and construction. Remove loose shelves and hardware, bag and label fixings, and photograph complex assemblies before dismantling. Appliances should be disconnected, drained and prepared according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
